Ford Boosting Production to Build More EcoBoost Engines
The demand for fuel-efficient cars is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Ford vehicle outfitted with the environmentally conscious EcoBoost engine have been requested so much that the automaker is adding a third shift at its Cleveland Engine Plant to meet customer demands. We offer several EcoBoost-equipped Ford cars at Maritime Ford, a valued Ford dealership in Manitowoc, WI.
The Cleveland plant is the only manufacturing facility that creates the EcoBoost 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6 engines, and the plant is in need of additional workers to supplement the tripling of production. Ford is adding a third shift to the Cleveland Engine Plant, which will add 250 jobs to the area. Employees of the second Cleveland Engine Plant, which is ending production, will be the first to fill the positions.
The EcoBoost technology, which combines direct injection and turbocharging, has become extremely popular since its debut in 2009. Since then, over 180,000 EcoBoost engines built in Cleveland have been sold. In 2012’s first quarter, the automaker sold over 39,000 EcoBoost-outfitted Ford vehicles, a 285 percent increase from 2011’s first quarter.
The Ford Taurus, F-150 and Flex, as well as the Lincoln MKS and MKT, are among the vehicles with Cleveland-built Ford engines. The 3.7-liter V6 engine is found most commonly in the popular Ford Mustang and the F-150. The F-150 receives 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, ratings unseen among trucks. The Mustang is more efficient than ever with an EPA rating of 19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The automaker is breaking ground like never before.
