Ford Boosting Production to Build More EcoBoost Engines

The demand for fuel-efficient cars is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Ford vehicle outfitted with the environmentally conscious EcoBoost engine have been requested so much that the automaker is adding a third shift at its Cleveland Engine Plant to meet customer demands. We offer several EcoBoost-equipped Ford cars at Maritime Ford, a valued Ford dealership in Manitowoc, WI.

The Cleveland plant is the only manufacturing facility that creates the EcoBoost 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter V6 engines, and the plant is in need of additional workers to supplement the tripling of production. Ford is adding a third shift to the Cleveland Engine Plant, which will add 250 jobs to the area. Employees of the second Cleveland Engine Plant, which is ending production, will be the first to fill the positions.

The EcoBoost technology, which combines direct injection and turbocharging, has become extremely popular since its debut in 2009. Since then, over 180,000 EcoBoost engines built in Cleveland have been sold. In 2012’s first quarter, the automaker sold over 39,000 EcoBoost-outfitted Ford vehicles, a 285 percent increase from 2011’s first quarter.

The Ford Taurus, F-150 and Flex, as well as the Lincoln MKS and MKT, are among the vehicles with Cleveland-built Ford engines. The 3.7-liter V6 engine is found most commonly in the popular Ford Mustang and the F-150. The F-150 receives 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, ratings unseen among trucks. The Mustang is more efficient than ever with an EPA rating of 19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The automaker is breaking ground like never before.

As a supplier of new and used Fords in Manitowoc, WI, our team at Maritime Ford continues to offer vehicles with the best options to save fuel and money. We keep our customers’ best interests in mind without sacrificing environmental awareness.

Maritime Ford Offers Heavy-Duty Ford Vehicles in Wisconsin

Ford F-550 Concept Truck Comes to the Aid of Tornado Victims

Ford F-550 Concept Truck Comes to the Aid of Tornado Victims

In April, several destructive tornadoes ripped through Texas leaving many citizens and their families in need of immediate assistance. As a result, Ford needed to employ a record-breaking number of its F-550 Super Duty Rescue Trucks. The truck went from concept to rescue in a matter of moments. With the ever-changing weather conditions in Wisconsin, our team at Maritime Ford, a trusted Ford dealer in Manitowoc, WI, knows the importance of keeping our families and neighbors safe by offering heavy-duty Ford vehicles.

Revealed at the Chicago Auto Show in February, the F-550 was built from tires to roof at the show to create interest in the rescue vehicle. The concept was displayed at a Houston rodeo only a week prior to the tornadoes’ touchdown. The F-550 quickly came to the aid of several Texas residents.

The trucks were first stationed at the Green Oaks Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center to evacuate 150 patients. The building had sustained a great deal of damage and the rescue trucks acted as quickly as possible to alleviate some of the worry and damage.

Brad Snyder, vice president of NewScope Marketing, the branding firm that customized the F-550, was called to lend outside help for the tornado relief. Alongside an employee, Snyder drove the truck to offer as much assistance as he could.

The fully equipped 2012 F-550 is stacked with a 6.7-liter Powerstroke diesel V-8 engine and tires designed traditionally for rock crawling. Outfitted with thermal imaging units, the truck was able detect weather hot spots and act accordingly. The vehicle was able to haul large amounts of water, gloves and necessary equipment for on-duty firefighters. After 10 hours on site, the truck assisted throughout dozens of tornadoes that demolished homes, but did not end in fatalities.

Our team at Maritime Ford understands how quickly weather conditions can change. We are proud to offer new and used Ford vehicles in Manitowoc, WI that are part of such a helpful auto family.

All-New Ford Escape Loses the Boxy and Gains the Moxie

Ford recently announced that it would launch its 2013 Ford Escape in San Francisco, the stomping ground for the free-spirited, environmentally conscious and socially aware. That seems like the last place that would welcome a fuel-guzzling SUV. However, the trimmed-down Escape is getting an improved fuel economy to match its refreshed styling, which is something everyone can celebrate. Our team at Maritime Ford, a premier Ford dealership in Manitowoc, WI, looks forward to seeing what the future holds for the all-new Escape.

Ford is maximizing the curves in the 2013 Escape. Each part of the vehicle’s body has been shaped and sculpted for a sleeker, more aerodynamic ride. In a city where art and beauty reign, the Escape should blend seamlessly in San Francisco.

The trim down has given the Escape an improved performance in every sense of the word. Not only does the SUV perform more like a car in that it’s quieter and more precise, its fuel economy has received quite the boost. The Escape has also added a leg-activated tailgate as well as swifter fold down rear seating.

When we open the hood, we’ll be surprised to see that the Escape’s V-6 engine is no longer employed. Instead, the Escape is receiving a standard 2.5-liter, 168-horsepower engine or one of two available turbocharged engines. One is the 1.6-liter, 173-horsepower engine and the other is a 2.0-liter, 237-horsepower engine.

According to USA TODAY, the EcoBoost engine will gain up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 23 miles per gallon in the city. Although it isn’t as high as its hybrid competition, the renewed Escape is all about balancing performance and aesthetics.

We are proud to offer a variety of new and used Fords in Manitowoc, WI at Maritime Ford. Our dealership anticipates the improved 2013 Ford Escape and hopes to serve the needs of more people in the Manitowoc area.

Maritime Ford Weighs In On Fords in Manitowoc, WI

Ford Plans to Drop Pounds in All Models by End of Decade

Ford Plans to Drop Pounds in All Models by End of Decade

Ford Motor Co. has decided to make a huge lifestyle change for all of its vehicles. By the end of the decade, the automaker plans to drop 750 pounds of excess weight from all Ford models. With the help of Dow Chemical, Ford hopes to accomplish its goal of one major weight loss. Maritime Ford, a trusted Ford dealership in Manitowoc, WI, looks forward to lighter, more efficient Ford vehicles that keep performance in mind.

Ford is in the process of calculating the best way to lose the pounds of its an entire model fleet. The automaker has taken the first necessary step by offering the smaller fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines in its vehicles that don’t compromise power. The second step will be to build the vehicles with more lightweight materials, which is why Ford is partnering with Dow Chemical.

Dow uses carbon fiber composites in its materials, and paired with the already implemented high-strength, lightweight polymers and structural bonding technology, Ford is nearing its weight loss goal.

The problem Ford faces, however, is how to make a less-expensive carbon fiber that doesn’t jeopardize durability. Together, Ford and Dow will employ the help of AKSA, a carbon fiber manufacturer in Turkey, as well as the U.S. Department of Energy Oak Ridge National Lab to develop the best products possible.

If all goes according to plan, the automaker hopes to launch vehicles near the end of the decade that will feature the new carbon fiber technology. Ford will continue to strive for more fuel-efficient vehicles that balance a fun-to-drive performance as well as a powerful ride.

Maritime Ford is home to a vast inventory of new and used Ford in Manitowoc, WI. To stay updated on Ford’s weight loss goals and product development, stick with Maritime Ford online or on-site.

Ford Hosts Events Across U.S. to Encourage Safer Driving Amongst Teenagers

During the first six months of 2011, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reported an increase in fatalities amongst teens. This age group faces a multitude of impaired driving risks, which lead to distraction, accidents small and significant, and even death. Ford has reached out to offer a program that addresses the risks of impaired driving and shows teens how to operate a vehicle safely. Maritime Ford, a trusted Ford dealer in Manitowoc, WI, is proud to represent the automaker’s efforts to save more lives and improve driving conditions for all.

Ford Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) is a program designed to bring awareness to teens and their families about the risks and consequences of impaired or distracted driving. The organization is presenting $100,000 in grants to the GHSA to perform the informative driving programs and implement initiatives that should reduce the amount of teen driving fatalities.

In a study reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the leading cause of death amongst people ages 15 to 20 is vehicular accidents. Over 3,000 lives each year are taken as a result of distracted or impaired driving.

This month, over 1,000 teens will obtain safe driving skills from Ford DSFL and the top driving instructors in the country. The teens from all over the U.S. will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.

In Wisconsin, the DOT Bureau of Traffic Safety will join forces with the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to put on a safe driving event for teens that will demonstrate the dangers of impaired driving. The program will be made possible through the Ford DSFL resources.
